Out of all the fic in the HP fandom, they went with mpreg? I'm wondering if they were pushing this as a shock factor more than a 'look what's going on' thing.

Granted, it could have been worse...

edit: just realized my original comment made me sound like a meanie face. *ahem* I think it's amusing that they DID choose mpreg, but the editorial side of me still wonders...

The mention of sadomasochistic Care Bears really solidified that shock point. But, to be fair, I didn't know about Meg Cabot so that's something new and Joss Whedon's support of fanfiction was great to read, too! ♥

Reading mainstream articles about fanfic makes me feel like a bug under the microscope. :)) IDEK.

i wish people would stop breaking the fourth wall, on both ends. idk, every time i hear about "fandom" irl i just get this odd churning feeling in my gut :/

sidenote: why does no one talk about fanfiction when it's completely relevant? like the fact that that absolute shit book 50 shades is published twilight fanfiction. smh

I actually found the article very respectful, considering what has been written about fanfiction writers in the past. And they're right; there are a lot of us crossing over, and as much as I wish Fifty Shades of Grey was just better writing, we can't deny that the writer of it did all of us a favor. What publisher doesn't want a piece of the millions she's bringing in? I simply aspire to make a decent living at it.

I just read it and, yeah I agree, for all the shock of 'Harry's pregnant' in the picture, there really much mention of HP.

Honestly, if you're gonna shock, do it right.

First, the fact that it was posted on my birthday makes me giggle.

Second, I like the authors that encourage it like Joss Wheadon. I think that's how shows and books and other things last through fan fiction. It is funny to see people study it like they're on the outside looking in to an unknown world. To the authors that don't support it I always want to know what inspired them to write their things. Did they read something or did the idea just hit them one day with no outside influences or inspirations? It always make me wonder about that.

I have to say though the Care Bears reference made me giggle. I have mixed feelings about this though. I do like that they're bringing fanfiction out in the open, but at the same time I feel it's like someone has let out a secret and now there has to be an explanation as to why we write mpreg and slash.

I think the journalist was a big fan of Twilight, but it's funny how they choose Mpreg (really ?) and not an other type of fanfic when they speak about Harry Potter (but they speak about Harry/Draco, so it musts be ok ^_- Even if they don't seem to understand it.)

That articile was at least kind. I wonder what they want to accomplish by talking about it though?

This is the result I expected to happen when 50 Shades was published and became popular and much was made of the fact that it began life as a Twilight fanfic. Light will be shown into all of the dark corners of fanfic. The good, the bad and the ugly. Depending on the slant of any given article it can benefit fanfiction or do the opposite when they are looking to expose the sleaze. This could have been worse.

I feel like someone just released my biggest secret and now there's no possible way to shove it back into the wardrobe. I'm a bit iffy about this. The article wasn't...terrible, I agree in that it could have been way worse. Instead of ripping fanfiction, its readers, and the brilliant writers to shreds, it basically laid out there version of the truth based on rigorous studying and interviews with whoever they could find.

It cracks me up to read that professors in uni's and other world renowned authors, etc. are studying fanfiction like its the missing link and that those books, we all know the ones, where based off a fandom. It explains so much. Idk it just read like writing from a fangirl. I only read one of the books out of the whole series and gave up though so I can't really judge. Especially since she used her writing to get published. She was a smart cookie, what can I do but give her some respect for doing what a lot of great fandom writers, including myself, have only dreamed of accomplishing.

As I said, I'm iffy on this. A lot of websites have been threatened or just taken down during such a thriving fanfiction period and I am just not feeling good about this. It's like something has squirmed its way into my system and just made camp in the pit of my stomach. I guess i feel this way because i have been reading fanfiction for years and this is something so personal to me and even to friends of mine and now someone just came in and ripped away our best secret.

Idk, maybe I'm just being paranoid. Who knows, this could be great for fanfiction, bringing in loads of great writers to add their input to our favorite pairings. Sigh, we can only hope for the best yeah?
